This site is a rarity on expeditions, as generally the sea does not provide suitable landing conditions.Today was an exception and we were able to get ashore as well as cruise the area. Thousands of chinstrap penguins inhabit this site which can make walking around a little tricky as they seem to beeverywhere! With caution we crossed penguin highways and weaved our way to a lookout. From here it seemed that the colony stretched for miles. We could look out across the colony and spend a moment listening to their calls. High up the mountains, crossing the meltwater streams and resting on the beach the penguins were all around us. With waves crashing we watched as rafts of penguins came and went to shore keeping safe in larger groups.Back on the ship, with the sun lowering, we met out on the aft deck for a toast to this special place as we said goodbye.

ベイリー・ヘッドは、ランチョ・ポイントとしても知られている。この区域は、南極、デセプション島の南東海岸の岩だらけの岬である。　高い山の尾根にはヒゲペンギンの営巣地があり、さながら自然の円形劇場といった風情を成している。風景写真の撮影には絶好の場所である。
